The story behind our colours.
In these intense times, we found inspiration by looking at Vermeer’s paintings. The artist painted scenes of daily life in the rooms of his residence with access to natural light. The walls are thicker, the window panes are smaller and edged with wood trim- the atmosphere feels like something lost to time but desperately needed now.
In our Montréal studio, we don’t turn on the lights in the morning and work with the cascading directional light from our wall of windows. Gently bathed in the morning light, the products look their best. Their colours feel softer, and the shadows emphasize the sculptural forms and textures. We decided to lean into this inspiration and pull rich, darker hues from the world of oil paints to create a new palette for Cyrc’s products.
Pastels and oversaturated primary colours may grab your attention on a screen, but our new colours are meant to bring solemnity and timeless beauty into their environment. The colours stand out in bright natural light but equally follow the mood into the evening when lights are low when you take respite from a long day. We hope these colours help you see the world as Vermeer did.
